THE SYLLOGISM
1. Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
2. The universe began to exist.
3. Therefore, the universe has a cause.
USEFUL TERMS
What is time? We don’t know exactly what it is. We call it the 4th dimension. We know it’s connected with space, velocity, gravity and maybe entropy. In theory we can jump forward and backward but there’s no practical way to do it. We assume it had a beginning and will have an end.
Eternal - being without beginning or end.
Cause - the producer of an effect, result or consequence.
MY THOUGHTS
Everything we know and understand has a beginning and an end. But things cannot make themselves so there must be something that wasn’t made that can make things. Everything was made except God. God is not made and therefore eternal. He has no beginning and no end. If God could die, 1- He is not eternal, 2- He is not outside of time, 3- Where did He come from? 4- He might even be dead already. If God was not eternal, then you can change His name from God to some alien being/civilization and we are back to square one. A third option is saying we don’t know how it all started, we don’t know how life came from non-life, we don’t know the origin of mind/consciousness and the evolutionary mechanisms must be adequate, they just must be.
I choose to put my faith in an eternal God who has caused the effects we experience. The universe is not eternal. It had a beginning. We see that it’s expanding and many believe in the big bang theory. I don’t but I do believe the universe had a beginning. I believe God created the universe with age just like He created Adam and Eve with age.
