THE SYLLOGISM
1. Objective morality exists.
2. Objective morality can only come from a moral creator god.
3. Therfore a moral creator god exists.
USEFUL TERMS
Moral Objectivism -> There are moral facts. Thoughts and actions are right or wrong for all people.
Moral Relativism -> Moral facts can be true for one people group and false for another. There are at least 3 major problems with relativism. 1- It's self refuting (is that true?) 2- It can't be lived out. The relativist likes to think their position makes them tolerant, but when something "wrong" happens they become very intolerant. 3- When it is lived out, it is disrespectful because they don't take any beliefs seriously, not even their own.
Moral Nihilism -> There are no moral facts. This is an abhorrent position. There are many behaviors that are absolutely wrong and to believe otherwise is worthy of worry and concern for life.
MY THOUGHTS
The moral argument is solid evidence for God. God is the only reasonable explanation for morality. God has written it on our hearts so everyone can be moral but BEING moral and JUSTIFYING it are two different things. To justify morality there needs to be a source, a moral law giver to make morals meaningful and not just opinion. Some people believe that morality evolved from animals but not only is there no evidence for that, it leaves us with moral relativism, which is logically incoherent.
While the moral argument establishes a moral creator, it does not give us any additional details about God. For that we must study the various belief systems and determine what is true. Has God revealed Himself to mankind? I believe He has. My faith is in the Bible and Jesus Christ.
